Our HIStory

On April 13, 1959, James J. Harris hosted a meeting at Morrocroft Farm that marked the Club's formal beginning. On December 18, 1959, the twenty-one Founders of the Club executed its Certificate of Incorporation, which was filed on January 4, 1960, officially constituting Quail Hollow Club.

The first ninety members of the Club were designated its Charter Members. The Club's property comprises 257.3131 acres and is fully utilized for Club activities.

The Clubhouse

The white southern style clubhouse was designed by Charles W. Connelly & Associates and was under construction from 1963 to 1967 and officially opened in September 1967. In 1999, the golf course side of the clubhouse was redesigned for a more open feel by Ferry Hayes & Allen Designers, Inc. and Brian Dickerson. The building features a grand ballroom in the center with an oak floor. Off the main entrance foyer are a library and card room.

Other features include several dining areas off the main kitchen, each with a distinct look and 15 fireplaces located throughout. The gentlemen’s and ladies’ locker rooms are located on the west side of the building. The men’s locker room features a grill and two lounge areas with paintings of the golf course throughout.

Early decorations and furniture were provided by members and many remain in the club with the idea of creating a feeling of comfort, much like entering an elegant home, with the driveway leading to the front entrance bordered by large oak trees and the interior furnishings creating a sense of a “great big living room.”

In the winter of 2008, the members' pavilion was constructed behind the 18th green. During Wells Fargo tournament week, this is a members-only area where they can watch play on 18. This building features oak paneling, a large gathering space, a bar and a kitchen. The swimming pool was also re-done at the same time and is connected to this building on the parking lot side. The tennis shop was also rebuilt near here.

The membership has such a sense of community that when a club member dies, the American flag located at the front of the clubhouse is lowered to half-mast.
